Electromagnetic radiation is shaping up to be a bigger and bigger problem every day. As we surround ourselves with more and more wireless devices, we are constantly getting inundated with high-frequency waves that do unprecedented damage to our health and wellbeing.

And the most unfortunate thing is, we as a society have very little knowledge of the grave harms these radiations can cause.

From your cellphones to your computer to the smart fridge to even your iPad, everything that operates wirelessly can pose a serious risk to our biological systems, and yet not many of us are really aware of it. “How dangerous can it really be?” is a question that I get asked quite a lot.

Thus, this article is dedicated to highlighting just that. In this article, I will break down the radiations that are generated from an iPad, the health risks that are associated with it, and what we can do to protect ourselves from this radiation. Let’s begin!

Any electronic device that runs on semiconductor technology will produce radiation. And iPads are no exception. They produce three main types of radiation, namely:

EMF radiation is produced as a result of Faraday’s laws of electromagnetic induction. In it, Faraday claims that if an electrical charge is moved through a conducting wire, a magnetic flux of the same amplitude will be formed around it as a direct result of the charge movement.

Thus, for every instance that an electrical component is running, it also produces a magnetic flux of the same amplitude. The iPad is made of millions of tiny electrical components which all generate their own little magnetic fields.

An average of the summation of these magnetic fields is then emitted out which the user might get exposed to. It is important to point out that these radiation waves are quite weak when they travel out and are non-ionizing in nature, meaning they don’t have the power to split open atoms.

However, that is not to say that these radiations are not dangerous because they are.

If exposed continually and regularly, these radiations can build up in the human body and create all sorts of problems including chronic diseases which is not desirable.

RF stands for radio frequency and is produced primarily to help carry out wireless communications. Wi-Fi to Bluetooth to cellular connectivity – all these technologies are powered by RF radiation.

RF helps in all sorts of ways from connecting to our internet to sending files to a different phone. The basic idea of RF radiation is that every device has a transmitter and a receiver.

So if I were to send files from one phone to the other, the first phone would encrypt the file into ‘packets’, attach it to an RF radiation wave and transmit it through the phone’s transmitter.

The second phone would receive this transmitted wave, decrypt the packet and save the file, thus completing a successful file transfer.

Although this technology has enabled us to do wonderful things wirelessly and has made our lives considerably easier, there are some massive pitfalls to using this technology.

The first and perhaps the most obvious one is that the RF radiation is high frequency, meaning it has very high power that can easily penetrate through physical obstacles like walls.

For someone in the vicinity of these radiation waves, they can easily penetrate through the skin and directly interact with our biological structures.

This puts the cells under stress because of which they cannot properly replicate and thus bring about a plethora of chronic conditions that the person is now subjected to as a result of radiation exposure.

ELF radiation stands for extremely low-frequency radiation and is produced as a by-product of the electrical components that are running. As the name suggests, it is low frequency but still can do significant damage if we are regularly exposed to it.

That is because the radiation builds up in our bodies and slowly puts our biological systems under pressure. Although ELF is generally not that serious, it does become quite a force to reckon with when combined with EMF and RF radiations.

Thus we have to be really careful in safeguarding ourselves and our loved ones from this menace of radiation.

I’ve explained in the above paragraphs the ways radiation can tamper with our biological systems. But what does it really mean? What are the manifestations of it?

In this section, we take a look at some of the most common symptoms that you will develop while being exposed to iPad radiation. Radiation can create undue stress on our cellular structures that can bring about the conditions understated:

As you can see, these are serious health conditions that can be brought about by simply exposing yourself to your iPad radiation. Some of the diseases are chronic and can even be life-threatening.

Thus we must never take the risk of radiation lightly and must always do our best to protect ourselves and our loved ones from its terrible repercussions.

In the next section, I discuss some of the things we can do and some of the practices we can adopt to ensure that we are safeguarded from this terrible evil.

The best way of protection undoubtedly is to stop using your iPad completely. However, that is often not a practical solution and is easier said than done.

Thus, we take a look at some simple steps we can take to ensure we minimize our radiation exposure to the lowest possible level.

As I discussed above, both ELF and EMF are short-range radiations that get weakened if you increase the distance between you and the source of radiation.

However, that is not always possible with an iPad because it is a hand-held device and is designed to be used that way. But, if you can place it on your desk and use it while keeping a distance of about two feet from the screen, you automatically minimize your exposure risks by 80%.
