The fourth generation of telecom connectivity really took the world by storm when it first launched in the late 2000s.

They were a massive improvement over 3G and delivered speeds up to 500 times faster than allowed for things like HD video streaming and high definition video calls.

This was also a game-changer for browsing since it made mobile devices comparable to laptops in the range of things that it could do. In many ways, the smartphones of today were made possible by the revolutionary 4G tech.

If you looked at the world today, 4G is increasingly common even in areas you wouldn’t typically expect it to be. For example, if you looked at the continent of Africa, the majority of the countries there have 4G connectivity and it is one of the fastest-growing markets in the world.

However, as more and more people are getting connected to the internet, the 4G bandwidth won’t be able to support such high traffic. This will eventually lead to speed throttling which is self-defeating since speed is a big reason why people switched to 4G in the first place.

It is estimated that by the year 2022, 30 billion devices will be connected to the internet, the majority of which would be over 4G. Thus, a need for an even faster and better network comes into force.

5G started making massive waves at the test runs conducted in 2019, demonstrating its capabilities. The incredible speeds that 5G could reach boggled the minds of spectators and scientists alike.

Rest assured, adopting 5G would eliminate our worries of accommodating everyone within the same bandwidth and also allow for next-gen applications based on IoT to roll out to the general public for the first time.

How is 5G different than 4G?

To put it simply, the 5G network is faster, smarter, and more efficient than its 4G counterpart. The data transfer speeds it promises are so insane that it far surpasses all home broadband connection speeds that are available for service today.

With data speeds up to 100 Gigs per second, it is almost a hundred times faster than the present-day 4G.

Speed notwithstanding, low latency is also a key differentiator in these two networks. In common terms, latency can be understood as the time it takes for the device to send information and then something to happen based on that information.

This means we will see more and more integration of AI and ML into our tech which will use this low latency feature to respond almost in real-time to its surroundings.

This also means that you will be able to use the internet way faster and downloads and uploads would only take seconds to complete. Getting on the 5G network will also mean that you would be able to stream content off the internet in 4K resolution almost immediately without any buffering.

5G will also play a pivotal role in fixing our bandwidth problems. Right now, there are too many phones connected to too many spectrums that don’t have adequate resources to support them ably.

5G will not only be able to handle them efficiently but also easily accommodate tech of the future like driverless cars and smart home systems. However, it must be noted that at this point, these are all theories, and governments and companies will have to make sizable investments where they actually make them work.

Security with 5G is also a major concern. With such low latency, we will see many of the human-centric jobs going to machines running over 5G networks. As such, the security of those machines will become supercritical since if a hacker gains access to the network, they can pretty much control the machines.

Thus, governments and the concerned agencies must make sure that critical security measures and counterbalances are in place before it is actually implemented on a large scale.

Is 5G more dangerous than 4G?

Radiation is a problem that is ever-present with wireless devices. It is one of those things that you just cannot do away with. However, when we consider which radiation is more harmful to us, I would confidently say 5G. There are a couple of reasons for that which we go over below. But before that, let us begin by understanding what these radiations really are.

They are small bursts of electromagnetic waves that have some data embedded in them. This data is then collected and used by different systems, hence completing the whole wireless data transfer cycle.

These waves are quite high in energy but generally non-ionizing, meaning they do not have enough energy to split open an atom. That being said, they are still powerful enough to easily penetrate through physical obstacles like walls.

Now that we have a basic understanding of these waves, let me explain why 5G is clearly more dangerous than 4G radiation.

5G is touted as a spectrum that allows more data transfer caps at higher speeds. In order to achieve that, the 5G radiation waves have to have higher frequencies. In common terms, that means that the radiation will be more powerful but would have a relatively short range.

This means, if you are exposed to 5G radiation, it can do more damage than 4G but you would be relatively safe if you just increased distance between yourself and the device generating the radiation.

However, this short wavelength is an issue for the mobile companies since they can’t run a network efficiently if the waves die down super quick and there is a loss of information when received.

Thus to overcome this, they installed several mini-towers that work as signal amplifiers to help the wave along. Now, this is clearly a problem since you are not only exposing yourself to high levels of EMF radiation but now because of the mini-towers, you’re also can be exposing yourself more frequently and in higher amplitudes.

The second issue is that 5G radiations are just too powerful. Sure, 4G radiation was powerful too and could do damage to our biological systems when exposed regularly but 5G radiations have a lot more energy and can thus end up thermally exciting our cellular structures more.

This can mean a sharp decrease in our immune system function and an increase in people developing chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease.

As you can clearly fathom, this is not a desirable situation. But there is very little we can do to stop 5G from rolling out. The corporations see massive profits in 5G and the government sees it as an additional too to administer its citizens so we, the common folk, don’t really have any say in this matter.

All we can really do is take caution and prepare for this eventuality. The good thing about radiation is that our bodies can naturally heal from it pretty quickly, given it is given time to do so.

There are several things we can do to mitigate the terrible health risks that come from exposure to 5G and that’s what we discuss in the next section.

Safeguarding against 5G radiation

The first thing we should all do is adopt a bunch of good habits that give our bodies time to heal the damage of 5G radiation exposure that it had endured throughout the day.

Things like no wireless devices in the bedroom, shifting to more and more wired connections (be it your internet or console joystick), using Faraday cages, etc. have been shown to be quite effective in bringing down our total radiation exposure levels.

Thus it is advised to incorporate these habits into your daily life as soon as possible. If you’re interested in a detailed list of things that you can do to lessen the effects of radiation exposure, I have a separate article for your perusal. Protecting Your Home From EMF Radiation.

That said, there are also exemplary anti-radiation products in the market that do an excellent job of stopping radiation from interacting with your body.

There are a number of items that you’ll find online from laptop covers to blankets that promise to block out all radiation. However, you must exercise caution – since this market is not regulated, there are a lot of fraudulent companies out there to make a quick buck.

They sell products that are subpar or just straight up don’t work. Thus you just be very careful of the brand that you choose to go with. If you need my recommendations, I have several articles dedicated to reviewing these products as well as a top recommended list for your reference.

All products that I recommend have been scientifically tested for radiation blocking efficiency and have great after sales records so that you can get your complaints readdressed should something go wrong with your purchase.
